Head Field Instructors

Hi, my name’s Logan. I’m super excited to return to Colorado for my fourth season with HTOEC. I studied communication with a theatre emphasis at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS. I’m looking forward to new adventures and new opportunities to learn and grow this season.

Hi there! My name is Rachel and I come from California. When I’m not working with kiddos in the outdoors, I love playing music, making art, and climbing rocks. I’m super excited for my third season at High Trails. See you out there!

2019 fall field instructors

Howdy! My name is Abby. I recently graduated from St. Lawrence University with a BS in Psychology where I spent lots of time trying to figure out how to enjoy being outside in below 0 temperatures. I have spent my past two summers here in Florissant with Sanborn Western Camps which has led to my attempt to never leave this beautiful place. When I do have a free moment, I love to read, swing in a hammock, or find something to eat with peanut butter. I love to be outside and I'm so excited to be able to spend a fall season here in the Rocky Mountains. I can't wait to meet everyone!

Howdy Friends!  My Name is Noah and I hail from Ann Arbor, MI. I am extremely jazzed to be heading into my third season working with High Trails! I graduated from the College of Wooster with a BA in Anthropology and feel extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel to 10 different countries on 4 continents. I have a passion for landscape photography and in my free time I love to pair that with hiking, trail running, and skiing. This will be my first spring in Colorado and I am so excited to be spending it at High Trails!

Hi friends! My name is Emily. I recently graduated from Colorado College with my BA in Sociology (go Tigers). I have spent the last several summers working for the summer camp branch of High Trails and cannot wait to transition into teaching during fall weeks. I have a passion for soup of any kind, particularly tortilla soup, along with a passion for giving kids the opportunity to love the outdoors. I also like to spend my days drinking too much coffee (and accidentally spilling it all over my shirt, see photo) and finding the best alpine meadows to frolic in. See you outside!

Hey y’all! My name is Erikka. I grew up in the mountains of Washington but traded them for the hills of Massachusetts, where I studied Geosciences at Williams College. Nowadays, you can usually find me climbing up rocks, exploring the woods, or just sitting in the sun with a good book and a cup of tea. This is my first season at High Trails and I am SO excited! I cannot wait to meet you all, share some gneiss geology puns, and go on amazing adventures. See you soon!

Hi! I’m Charles, and this will be my second season with HTOEC. I graduated from Reed College in Portland, OR, and have been living in Colorado for the past year or so. I’m originally from New York, but I’ve been coming to Florissant for many years as a camper and staff member at Sanborn Western Camps, the summer camp branch of COEC. I’m just coming off of another summer of leading horseback riding trips as a Wrangler at Sanborn, and I can’t wait for the fall season to arrive.

Hey, I’m Juliann and I grew up in Iowa City, Iowa. I decided my home state wasn’t cold enough so I headed north and attended St. Olaf College in Minnesota to study Biology and Environmental Science. Since graduating, I have had the pleasure of working as a counselor at Farm Camp in Plantation, CA, for the past two summers. At camp, I’ve been able to indulge in my favorite pastimes of hiking, barn dances, campfire cooking, exploring nature, and being a part of a close-knit, joyful community. I’m super excited to spend my first season at High Trails and looking forward to meeting all of the students.

Hey there! My name is Madelyn. I grew up on Vashon Island in Washington state, and was quickly drawn to the Rockies after graduating high school. I attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado where I received my degree in Ecosystem Science and Sustainability.  During my time in Colorado I solidified my love for the outdoors through my many adventures with friends in wild places!  I love to work and play in the outdoors which has led me to seasonal positions such as ski instructing in the winter, and leading backpacking expeditions in the summer.  I hope to continue working in environments (like High Trails!) that combine two of my favorite things: adventure and working with kids! I am incredibly excited to spend the springtime teaching at High Trails and sharing valuable time with the kids, staff, and others that pass through!

Hi! My name is Zoe! I grew up near Lake Tahoe, California, and I try to spend every moment of my free time outdoors, often hiking, climbing, skiing, and camping (especially when there’s s’mores involved). I recently graduated with a BS in Animal Science from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and this will be my first fall in Colorado! I am beyond excited to call High Trails home for the upcoming season. Outdoor education was my favorite part of school growing up, and I cannot wait to pass that experience on to all the students this fall!

Hello everyone! My name is Jake and I’m from Broomfield, Colorado. A few things about me; I love being outside (duh), I strive to experience new things with new people, and I’m a lifelong learner. Also, I grew up exploring the open grasslands behind my childhood home which cultivated a sense of adventure and appreciation for preserved open space. It is a part of my mission to cultivate that same sense of adventure and love for untouched natural space within everyone I interact with. I Hope y’all have an excellent experience here at High Trails!

Hey! My name is Zia. I grew up in the Green Mountains of Vermont and then graduated with a degree in Environmental Studies from Skidmore College. While biking across the country, I fell in love with the Rocky Mountains and knew I had to make my home here. After two years with AmeriCorps in Boulder, I am super excited to head to High Trails. I can’t wait to explore, dance, learn, and laugh with you all in the great outdoors this fall!

Hey Folks! My name is Kado and I grew up in Saratoga Springs, NY. I just graduated from SUNY Cortland with a degree in Outdoor Recreation. I got my start in the outdoors at a young age camping and hiking in the Adirondack Mountains, but I’ve had my fair share of tripping on roots and going knee deep in mud so I’m heading out to Colorado. Over the years I have developed a passion for climbing, paddle sports, biking, music and most importantly teaching and learning in the outdoors. I am super stoked for my first season at High Trails and I look forward to our paths crossing soon!

My name is Sam! I grew up in Denver, Colorado, and spent my first 24 years in this beautiful state. Last year, I graduated with degrees in Psychology and Philosophy from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO, and since have continued to pursue my passion for an adventurous lifestyle. Last fall, I moved to California, working in the winter and spring as an outdoor educator in the San Bernardino and Santa Monica Mountains. This summer, I worked as director of a outdoor Travel Camp program for people with disabilities, visiting destinations such as Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, Lassen, or Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks. Throughout all of these experiences I have always carried with me my love for the outdoors and for nature, and sharing that with others. I'm stoked to get back to Colorado this fall and continue teaching and making memorable experiences with some of the amazing, energetic spirits I know kids can be!
