Our Spring Field Instructors!
Hey there! My name is Melody, and I am originally from good 'ole Knoxville, Tennessee, amongst the grandfather Appalachians. I hurriedly moved West to the Rockies after a summer as a camp counselor here at the camp, and I have been exploring Colorado ever since. After a fall season at High Trails, I spent my time ski instructing, working for the Colorado Outward Bound School as a Logistics Coordinator, farming in Buena Vista, and mastering the art of Nordic skiing up on Tennessee Pass in Leadville. In the summer months, I am normally out trail running the beautiful singletrack that the Sawatch mountains offer, and in the winter, you can find me drinking coffee, reading and leaving the house with sticks on my feet to play in the snow! Overjoyed to be back home amongst the beloved 6,000 acres of High Trails.
I'm Emerson, born and raised in Charlotte, NC and received my degree in Environmental Science at the University of South Carolina. I love my home and alma mater but I’m always happy to spend some time out in Florissant in a place so different from the Carolinas. This is my second season instructing for High Trails and I can’t wait for all the goofball times to come. I enjoy walking, reading, listening to and playing music, educating young people, and being with people I love. If I can do those things outside that’s a win for the boy. Excited for another season at High Trails.
I'm Logan, and I grew up in Valley Center, KS, a small town just north of Wichita. I graduated from Pittsburg State University, in Pittsburg, KS, where I studied communication with a theatre emphasis. For fun I like to read, play games, sing, play tennis or frisbee golf, go bike riding, or just hang out and listen to music. This will be my first season as a field instructor, my first time coming to Colorado even, but I’m excited for new challenges and new adventures.
Hey, my name is Kevin! I am originally from Atlanta, GA and am a huge Falcons fan. I spent the winter skiing in Big Sky, Montana. What I like most about working at High Trails is getting to interact with kids in such a radically different environment than what they are used to. Fun Fact: I am unquestionably the biggest dog lover on staff.
Howdy Y’all! My name is Anne, and I am STOKED to be back teaching at High Trails. I originally hail from Atlanta, GA but have called the mountains home for the past six years. I graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Recreation Management focused on Youth Development. I am the Program Director for our summer camp and love spending my fall teaching in the outdoor education program. I love playing my guitar, chilling with my dog, and walking up mountains as much as possible. I am passionate about the out of doors and cannot wait to ignite that passion in the students at High Trails this fall.
I'm Erin and I enjoyed my first summer at High Trails in 2015 as the arts and crafts programming coordinator. I am originally from the Midwest and moved to Colorado in 2017 to work at HTOEC. I graduated from the University of Kansas in 2014 with a degree in Photography and have since pursued various jobs within education. I just spent the winter season working in Denver with public charter schools as a substitute teacher. I am really excited to be back in the woods teaching kids about the world we share!
Hey! My name is Josh, and I'm originally from the suburban jungle known as the Greater Boston Area. I received a BA in Outdoor Education from Johnson State College, a small school in northern Vermont. There I realized my passion for sharing the natural world with others, and creating a sense of stewardship for our world in young people. After graduating, I moved to Colorado and began a career in outdoor education. My passions are rock climbing, skateboarding, and snowboarding. I am psyched to start my second season with High Trails Outdoor Education Center!
