The Outdoor Classroom
During your time at High Trails, you will experience a variety of different outdoor learning experiences, which we call Discovery Groups. Each Discovery Group focuses on a different subject, and you will learn about the natural world around you while exploring, discovering, and questioning your surroundings.

As students in the outdoor classroom, you will become who you study - Prospectors, Homesteaders, Ute Indians, or Innovators, to name a few. As you learn about each group, you will actively reinforce your knowledge through participation in some of the cultural pastimes practiced by that group. Making candles, throwing the atl atl, creating shelters, and experimenting with small solar cells and wind turbines are only a sample of the ways we will engage you in each Discovery Group.

Learning in the outdoor classroom involves a variety of new experiences. Curiousity, exploration, active participation, and wonder are all building blocks of each of our curriculums. Be prepared to use each of your senses to the fullest as you hike through and investigate forests, meadows, and living history at High Trails.
