What is the job?

assist and teach discovery groups with HT staff and school teachers.
help lead evening programs, morning hikes and recreational activities.
work on the kitchen crew for a meal or two.

help in every way you can to make the program run smoothly.
What's the reward?
Although you receive no financial compensation, the benefits of working as a High School Leader are great. Through our formal trainings and the hands-on application of the leadership and role-modeling skills we teach, you will grow as a leader and as an individual. Friendships, good food, and time spent out of your traditional classroom setting all complement the growth you will experience during your time at High Trails. In addition, at the end of the session, you will receive formal, written evaluations from the middle school teacher you worked with and from your High Trails Staff. These can be used for job and college applications, as well as references references.
How do I apply?
Each elementary and middle school that comes to High Trails has a connection to their local feeder high school. At the high school there is one teacher or counselor who has taken on the role of 'High Trails Coordinator'. Find that person to get the required application materials, and return your completed application to your Coordinator. Prior to the trip, a representative from High Trails will visit your school and hold the first High School Leader training. At this meeting you will get a run-down of the program, see a slideshow, receive your teaching and cabin assignments, and take home a medical form for you and your parents to complete. This is also a great time for us to go through some common scenarios and ask a lot of questions!
