Comments about how to be the best from high school leaders of the past...

"Your personal example is very important, it must be sincere, but not always serious."

"Set aside your own personal life while you are at High Trails. Be with the kids, know how they feel, and understand what they are going through."

"It is important to get to know all the kids in your cabin as soon as you can, because they know you and expect you to know them."

"I have learned that leadership is not just having an iron fist or just letting them run away with the show. Love is needed and concern is also needed. Mainly, I have found out how to put all these things together."

"To lead kids and help them you must be willing to listen and respond."

'I have learned that the kids respond better if you talk to them on the same level as yourself and asking questions gets more involvement than lecturing.'
