Facilities

EntranceStudents hike to a variety of locations, all within a few miles of the main campus, for recreation and as part of their Discovery Groups.  Beautiful views abound, and education and learning are enhanced as students visit different destinations in conjunction with their Discovery Groups.  An authentic 1890s homestead, a renewable energy trailer, a replica Ute encampment, and a fully running sawmill from the 1930s are all part of the educational curriculum at High Trails, and give the program another dimension not to be found anywhere else.  In addition, all students get the chance to spend an evening at the Interbarn, our hands-on station-based science center.  During this program, they can step inside a life-size cell, explore a large selection of animal bones, pelts, rocks, and fossils, learn about photosynthesis and its role for life on Earth, and much more.

The High Trails campus is located on the 6000-acre property of the Colorado Outdoor Education Center, in the high country west of Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak.  Buildings center around our dining hall, called The Lodge, and students, counselors, and teachers stay in one of 10 fully furnished and heated cabins.  Our main campus also includes a large meeting area, called Heisler Hall, and a modern and fully equipped Infirmary, with a Registered Nurse on staff and available 24 hours a day.
